Thursday at Convention
Welcome to the first day of the 36th OCSEA Biennial Convention! It's so great to be together again and getting down to the business of the union. We will be updating the OCSEA Constitution and so much more. But don't forget to have fun while you're here. We have tons of fun and important events planned, and we hope you can take part in as much as possible.
We encourage you to attend this morning's New Delegate Workshop. If you are a new delegate attending convention for the first time, or you need a refresher, we highly recommend that you attend this important workshop from 8 a.m.-9:15 a.m. in Hope C.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. today on in the Lakeside Foyer on the 5th floor. General Session starts promptly at 10 a.m. in the Superior Ballroom, with doors opening at 9:30 a.m.
The day will kick off with a tribute to our nation with the DRC State Honor Guard and a National Anthem performance by Yolanda Latham, a retiree from Cleveland BWC 1810. We will be joined by special guest, Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb, to welcome us to Cleveland.
Pres. Chris Mabe will present the State of the Union and Sec.-Treas. Kathy Gersper will give an update on the finances of the union. VP Rocky Jolly will announce the PEOPLE Challenge for all districts.
After the morning session, we encourage you to attend the Future of Work Expo (see more below), which will be open from 12-2 p.m. and reopen at 5 p.m. It will also be open on Friday.
The afternoon will be filled with several political powerhouses. Attendees who purchased WAC/CMCA luncheon tickets will hear from Ohio Democratic Party chair Kathleen Clyde. The afternoon general session will welcome our good friend of labor, Sen. Sherrod Brown, who recently announced his run to retain his U.S. Senate seat.
The afternoon general session will also include the announcement of a brand new member benefit and a presentation from the Future of Work Committee.
Thursday's night special event will be held at the Greater Cleveland Aquarium. The specific details will be announced during general session.
