In an amazing show of union solidarity and humanity, OCSEA convention delegates came together yet again for another important cause. In this case, it was to help raise donations for union sisters and brothers greatly impacted by the Maui wildfires. Nearly 300 AFSCME members are from the devastated town of Lahaina.
Delegates' chapters, districts and assemblies stepped up in a big way to donate tens of thousands of dollars in relief to our AFSCME family ravaged by the wildfires. In total, chapters and subordinate bodies and OCSEA have pledged $62,550 in relief donations.
Most donations were pledged directly to the AFSCME Fallen Heroes Fund, which distributes assistance to AFSCME union members devastated by disasters all across our nation. Some groups also pledged to donate directly to Hawaii and Pacific labor locals in need. Subordinate bodies who pledged should get those donations to OCSEA as soon as possible. Checks should be made out to "OCSEA" with Maui convention donation in the memo.
